Superwoman Energy Bites are not only tasty, but they pack a punch. Thanks to the abundance of nuts and seeds (almonds, flax, sesame, sunflower, and chia), these bite-size morsels are full of healthy fats, which can help balance blood sugar levels, provide longterm energy, and are essential for building hormones in the body.  

The gut-friendly flax and chia seeds are also rich in fibre, which can support healthy digestion. Flaxseeds also contain phytoestrogenic compounds, known as lignans, which actually help the body to detoxify excess estrogens and xenoestrogens, which can be harmful to and interfere with how the body and its regulatory hormones function. #hormonesareeverything

Raw cacao and goji berries contain valuable minerals and antioxidants, like iron and phosphorus, which can have beautifying benefits, such as promoting healthy skin, hair, and nails. Oooh! Then there's the star ingredient, the beautiful maca! If you're unfamiliar with maca, this root is native to Peru and is rich in calcium, zinc, iron, and magnesium. It's great for women's health, helping to balance hormones and mood, as well as promote a healthy glow from the inside out! Maca is also well-known for its ability to increase energy and stamina (oh hey, B vitamins).

For an added boost, I've included the adaptogen ashwaghanda, which is great for supporting the adrenals and helping to reduce stress. 

 

MAKES 18 TO 20 BITES

1 c. flaxseeds, ground
1/3 c. sesame seeds
1/2 c. raw sunflower seeds
1/4 c. chia seeds
1/3 c. cacao nibs
1/2 c. almond meal
1/4 c. raw honey
2 tbsp. raw cacao powder
2 tbsp. maca powder
1 tbsp.. ashwaghanda powder
1/2 c. goji berries
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 small banana, mashed
toasted coconut, raw cacao powder, matcha powder, for rolling

 

DIRECTIONS

1. Mix all ingredients together in a high-powered blender or food processor, until they form a thick paste.

2. Roll paste into neat little balls, then roll and coat in toasted coconut, raw cacao powder, or matcha powder.

3. Serve immediately and store any leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
